Hardships Prepare Ordinary People For Extraordinary Destinies

Thesis: Hardships Build Strength

Supporting Point 1: I moved around a lot and was raised as a "free range" kid; expected to solve my own problems. This was tough on many levels, but provided me incredible resilience and the tools necessary to succeed at a high level.

Supporting Point 2: Dr Paul Stoltz coined the phrase "adversity quotient" (AQ), which is meant to partner with "emotional intelligence" (EI) as defined by Michael Beldoch. This research supports how important AQ is to managing stress.

Supporting Point 3: One of the best marketing and business minded execs I know, Guy Costantini, had this to say… "In both my personal life and career, I have been surprised by moments of both crisis and hardship. Whether centered around me or my loved ones I have come to believe that these are the crossroads which define our path through life.

Fun Fact: Colonel Sanders didn't succeed until the age of 62, when he set out with a $105 social security check in hand to pitch his chicken recipe to restaurants. 1,009 folks told him he was crazy, but he didn't give up.

Extra Credit: Share your own story about how adversity helped you succeed later in life. This is a personal topic and it's ok if sharing isn't for you. You can also "like" the comments of those who do share, to show your support.

Conclusion: Remember that your adversities are laying a foundation of strength, even if it doesn't become apparent until later in life.
